My Top 10 Songs of 2021

My Top 10 Songs of 2021

So many incredible music releases happened this year. We had new releases from Anne-Marie, Little Mix, Ed Sheeran, Adele, even ABBA, and that’s not scratching the surface.

Spotify Wrapped is one of the highlights of the year, when we find out our *real* music taste. Then I’m instantly checking social media to find out who everyone else has been listening too. Not just me, right?

So, in celebration of the end of 2021, I thought I’d share with you my top 10 songs of the year, from my Spotify Wrapped. This one’s for all you nosey lot out there.

10. Rita Ora, Imanbek – Mood (Feat. KHEA)

Back in February, Rita Ora released her EP ‘Bang’, featuring four brand new tracks, in collaboration with producer Imanbek. The record is heavily dance/electronic themed, and is one of my favourite releases of the year. You can tell it’s one of my faves, as two more songs from the EP feature in my top 10!

9. Zara Larsson – FFF

Zara’s long-awaited second album ‘Poster Girl’ was finally released back in March, to “generally favourable reviews”, according to Metacritic. The album takes a lot of influences from ABBA, who are Swedish, as is Larsson. For me, the album is just pure pop fun and escapism, and ‘FFF’ was one of the stand out tracks, and I’m really not surprised that it ended up in my top 10.

8. Little Mix – Sweet Melody

The first UK number one of 2021, and Little Mix’s first number one since ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ back in 2016. Even though I may be cheating a bit, because this song was actually released at the end of 2020, it was that popular that it just grew and grew in 2021. As Little Mix themselves describe the track, it was a cultural reset, and something fresh that I think we all needed. It gives off very 2000’s vibes with a modern twist, and is just an absolute banger to be honest.

7. Mabel – Let Them Know

A self-love anthem that shoves the haters under the carpet. Who doesn’t love the sound of that? Well, Mabel certainly delivered. The first single off of her upcoming second album, ‘Let Them Know’ allows us to feel free of worry and opinions, and makes us see the world as our oyster to do what we want, and not let anyone get in the way. After the last couple of years, gives us more I say.

6. Bebe Rexha – Sacrifice

2021 also saw the release of Bebe Rexha’s highly anticipated second album, ‘Better Mistakes’. A very raw and honest record, featuring a slightly different music style compared to her debut album, especially with the track ‘Sacrifice’. This is like an old school 2000s dance anthem, which definitely deserved more love.

5. Anne-Marie – x2

Speaking of second albums, Anne-Marie was another artist who blessed us with her follow up record this year. ‘Therapy’ is pretty much like therapy. A journey of emotions and honesty, which starts off with the track ‘x2’. This for me is just an in your face, alternative feel good track. I say alternative because it’s not your generic ‘love yourself’ and ‘haters gonna hate’, it’s more like, you’ve done some horrible stuff to me, so I’m going to do it back to you. I’m sure we’ve all been in that situation right?

4. Little Mix – Love (Sweet Love)

Little Mix’s first proper single as a trio, and for me, the most underrated song of 2021. No one can tell me otherwise. How this song didn’t get to number one, or even top ten is beyond me. That is all.

3. Rita Ora, Imanbek – Bang Bang

I told you Rita Ora is gonna pop up again in my top 10, and here we are. Another track from her EP ‘Bang’, is the absolute banger (no pun intended) of a track ‘Bang Bang’. If you’re looking for your classic, pure dance anthem, you’ve come to the right place. What more can I say, 10/10 for me.

2. Rita Ora, David Guetta, Imanbek – Big (Feat. Gunna)

Oh look, it’s Rita Ora again. You can really tell her EP was one of my faves this year, can’t you. You know when you listen to a song, and think, how did I live without this song before? This was it for me. I would now like EP number two please.

Top Song: Anne Marie & Little Mix – Kiss My (Uh Oh)

Drum roll please….my top song of 2021. I mean, it was kind of obvious to be honest. Two of my fave artists collaborating together, I’m all over it. It also helps that it’s an absolute anthem. Once again, how this didn’t get top 5 or even number one is baffling. It did get top ten though, so I’ll take what I can get. The music video is also iconic, the fact they recreated Bridesmaids is genius.

I hope you’ve enjoyed having a nosey into my top 10 songs of 2021. Let me know if you’d like more posts like this one!
