The Greatest Hits: May 2021

I’m back with another instalment of my music series ‘The Greatest Hits’! Now, you may have noticed I missed out April, not for any particular reason as there was a lot of incredible music released that month, but you know life gets busy and all that.

But we’re back, and I’m ready to shout about all my fave new releases from May, and let me tell you, it a good month for music. We had incredible albums, collabs we never knew we needed, and a strong comeback.

Imanbek & Cher Lloyd – Baddest

I think the title ‘baddest’ says it all. This is a dark, yet powerful feel good anthem, and a real reminder to people that you are a bad b****.

This was a bit of a surprise release, but it is definitely a song we all need right now. Imanbek brings his iconic production, and Cher Lloyd does not disappoint on the vocal, I mean come on, when does she ever disappoint.

One listen and you’re instantly hooked, you can thank me later.

Bebe Rexha – Better Mistakes

It’s been a long 3 year wait between Bebe’s debut album ‘Expectations’ and her second record, but the time has finally arrived.

I’m pretty sure that Bebe said the album was supposed to be released last year, but due to COVID it had to be pushed back, however the wait was definitely worth it.

Honest, raw, and a no filter attitude is what she brings on this record. It’s a real insight into her life and what she’s been through, and what she still struggles with. I do really like when artists show a more vulnerable side to them, as it shows their fan base that not everyone is perfect, and that even people who are successful still have struggles.

A must listen in my opinion.

Galantis, David Guetta & Little Mix – Heartbreak Anthem

This is Little Mix’s year everyone. Winning best group at the BRITs, having not one, but two top 10 singles so far (including this song), and both Leigh-Anne and Perrie are pregnant!

I feel like this group of artists is just insane. Two incredible producers, and the biggest girl group in the world, what more could you ask for?

Feel good summer vibes is what this song oozes, and don’t we just love a good upbeat dance anthem. If you’ve not had a listen already, you’re missing out big time. Oh and the music video is just stunning. Little Mix are basically real life angels, who knew.

Anne-Marie & Niall Horan – Our Song

These two have been teasing us about a collab for what feels like forever. Now, the wait is finally over, and their highly anticipated tune was released into the world.

You know when I mentioned earlier about collabs we never knew we needed, well this is it. A perfect pairing and a perfect song, what more could you wish for. The fact that they’re best friends in real life as well just makes this a whole lot better.

I really hope we get to hear more from them, because they said that they wrote 3 songs together, and I’m praying they decide to release them. They can’t just leave these insane songs lying around can they?

Olivia Rodrigo – SOUR

The cultural reset we all needed. Fact.

Olivia Rodrigo burst onto the music scene with global smash ‘drivers license’ back in January, and has basically been the soundtrack to all of our lives ever since. In May, she dropped probably the most anticipated debut album for a long time, and she now owns our ears.

The lyrics, the nostalgic Taylor Swift/Avril Lavigne vibes, and the honesty is all just mind-blowing. The fact that she’s only just turned 18 as well is insane.

This record will no doubt be named album of the year, and quite right so. Oh, and could a Grammy be in sight, who knows…

Sigrid – Mirror

She’s back! It’s been a little while since we’ve heard anything from Sigrid, but her new single Mirror is now out at last.

‘Strangers’ and ‘Don’t Feel Like Crying’ were absolute tunes, and the anthemic feel good sound carries through into her new era.

The premise of the song is all about loving what you see in the mirror, because we’re all guilty of saying harsh words to ourselves (including me), so this reminds us to be kind, and love and accept who we are.

Go on, give it a listen.
