The Greatest Hits: March 2021

Here we are, third instalment of ‘The Greatest Hits’!

March was another busy one for new music, so I’ve whittled it down to my absolute favourites that everyone needs to know about.

Without further ado, let’s see what I loved…

Bebe Rexha – Sacrifice

Bebe continues to release bop after bop every time and she’s now just released the song of the summer in my opinion.

Sacrifice is the second single of her upcoming sophomore album ‘Better Mistakes’, which will be released on 7th May! It’s been 3 long years but we’ve finally got here.

This song is such a classic club/dance song vibe. It’s catchy, it’s guaranteed to get you up on the dance floor, and is definitely the boost we all need right now, especially now we can actually see people outside again.

I’m so excited for the road she’s going down musically for this record, especially with the likes of her single ‘Baby, I’m Jealous’ last year, and now ‘Sacrifice’, this album just gets better and better as time goes on.

I also heard a snippet of the song ‘Better Mistakes’ which will be on the album, and wow, I really don’t think we’ll be ready when this album drops.

Zara Larsson – Poster Girl

Well, it’s been a long 4 years since her debut album ‘So Good’ was released, but ladies and gentlemen we have arrived, and Zara Larsson’s sophomore album ‘Poster Girl’ is FINALLY HERE! We all made it.

The anticipation for this record was high, and she definitely didn’t disappoint.

She said multiple times that this album has a big pop vibe, and was heavily influenced by artists such as ABBA, as they come from Sweden like Zara herself.

The album was preceded by the singles ‘Love Me Land’, which in my opinion was THE MOST underrated song of 2020, ‘WOW’ and ‘Talk About Love’. I mean, let’s be real and say any song off this album could be a single in it’s own right.

If you’re looking for some feel good pop perfection, you’ve come to the right place.

Rita Ora & Imanbek – Bang Acoustic EP

Back in February, Rita Ora released her banger (see what I did there…) of an EP, ‘Bang’ with Imanbek.

I featured it in my greatest hits for February post, and I said that it was probably my favourite EP of all time, and that comment still hasn’t changed. There’s only 4 songs, but they are all SO GOOD. So if you haven’t listened to the original ‘Bang’ EP, you seriously need to.

Anyway, a month later, Rita & Imanbek have released an acoustic version of the EP, and wow, it is stunning.

Sometimes when artists release an acoustic version of a song, it’s normally just the same vocals from the original song over the top of a guitar or piano. Well this EP goes about ten steps further than that.

Each song has a completely new vocal from Rita, and are genuinely acoustic versions. It’s funny actually because the original EP is this massive dance record, feel good anthems, and the acoustic EP completely switches that around.

A couple of the acoustic songs, ‘Bang Bang’ and ‘The One’ specifically, are really emotional ballads, which is the complete opposite to the originals, but it really works.

So you can go from dancing your heart out to sobbing your heart out within minutes.

Kamille – Mirror Mirror

Some of you may not have heard about Kamille, but you would have definitely heard a song she’s written, produced or contributed to. She has literally worked with everyone, from basically being a member of Little Mix, Dua Lipa (where Kamille won a bloody GRAMMY), Clean Bandit, Mabel, Olly Murs, RAYE, The Saturdays, Zara Larsson, the list goes on and on.

Kamille has also released a lot of solo material, and her most recent release is ‘Mirror Mirror’.

‘Mirror on the wall, tell me who’s the baddest of them all’, is the line she kicks the song off with, and then continues to serve the bad bitch energy from there.

The video is also a take on the Cinderella story, and features both Jade Thirlwall and MNEK. I mean, saying that Kamille is underrated is an understatement, if you haven’t listened to her material, what are you waiting for?

Alright then, March is done. I hope this has drawn you towards your new favourite song, or maybe persuaded you to add a couple of extra songs to your playlist.

As always, I hope you enjoyed this post, and I hope you’re enjoying ‘The Greatest Hits’ series, let me know down in the comments!
