How I’m Approaching 2021

Whenever a new year comes around, I feel like there’s always some pressure to reinvent yourself and set resolutions that will probably last two weeks. I’ve never really properly sat down and written a list of things that I want to achieve over the next year, I’ve had ideas, but never taken them seriously.

I feel like 2020, like a lot of people, I’ve had time to re-evaluate my goals and ambitions within my life and how I approach the ‘manifestation’ that I see so many people talking about. I’m sure it’s true when I say that we never know what’s going to happen in life, no one could’ve written 2020 or predicated it, so that just shows, even if you meticulously plan your life in detail, everything you plan isn’t necessarily going to happen.

I’m going into this year with an open mind. Like I just mentioned, we never know where life is going to take us or what’s going to happen. You could be in the process of something, whether that’s a university course or a job, and suddenly realise that it isn’t right for you and you want to take a different route in life. I’m sure a lot of people during lockdown have had the time to think about where they want their life to go, and basically re-evaluated everything, and decided to change their path and do something that makes them genuinely happy. To that I’d say why the hell not? You get one life, why not just go for it.

I am, this year, going to do more things that genuinely make me happy. Your mental health is so important, and has never been more important than over this last year. Take time, whether that’s everyday, every other day, or every week, to do something, whatever that may be, that makes you happy. Even if that means making a change in your life path, job, career, or something small like a hobby, if it makes you happier, give it a go. Making more time for these things is super important, and that’s why I’m going to make sure whatever I do this year, it genuinely brings me happiness.

Taking gut feelings is something I’ve only started doing recently. I always heard people say to listen to your gut whenever you have to make decisions or change things in your life, and thought it wouldn’t help me at all. Well, I actually did this a few months back with a big decision I had to make, and I have not regretted the decision at all since it happened, and I took this decision by listening to my gut feeling. This year, I’m going to make sure I listen to my gut more and hope that it sends me on the right path. Also, being more daring and taking risks, I mean I’m not saying I’m going to jump out of a plane anytime soon, but if my gut is telling me to change something drastic in my life or go a different way with something, I think it’s important to do whatever your body tells you to, no matter how big or small the risk.

Finally, I’m going to try to go into this year with as much of a clear head as possible. 2020 threw us many, many challenges, that I’m sure filled our minds with a lot of thoughts and feelings. It’s not the best start to a year hanging onto thoughts that you had the last year. Take some time, write down everything that’s on your mind, and start the year fresh and leave the negative thoughts behind.

I hope you all have a very happy and healthy new year!

  1. Hope 2021 is a good year for you! I also have realised that it is time to listen to my gut and just do things. Also it made me more appreciative of life and just the small things.
I also agree about realising things are not for you anymore. I realised it was time to change jobs so I am about to begin a new job soon! We all got to do more to look after our mental health and just enjoy life x

  2. Love this! This whole post is just so so important. It can be hard to think positively right now but if you can’t do that then at least try not to think negatively either, right!! I’ve started this year on a clean slate and made time every day for mental health/self care. I have energy as a result and that helps me approach things even better! Take care, i hope you have a wonderful 2021 with this fab mindset xxxx
